The Panchayat Raj Institutions
are given Constitutional status introducing Part - IX in the constitution
of India under 73 Amendment Act 1992. In pursuance of this act a
single COMPREHENSIVE Act covering all the three tier of P.R Institutions
was enacted in APPR Act 1994. The act came into force w.e.f 30.5.1994
as per G.O.Ms.No.304 PR ( Mandal. I) Dept., Dt:24.5.1994. There
is no change in the jurisdiction of the existing Panchayat Raj Institutions.
The District Level Bodies are known as Zilla Parishad and Intermediate
Bodies as Mandal Parishads. Thus in Andhra Pradesh there is three
tier Panchayat Raj system ie., Gram Panchayats at the village level,
Mandal Parishads at the middle level and Zilla Parishad at District
Level. There are 34 Mandal parishads covering 931 Gram panchayats
with two Revenue Divisions in Vizianagaram District under P.R Sector.
