I. VIZIANAGARAM:
Vizianagaram is the District.
It is an important Railway Station on the S.E. Railway and
connects the Raipur, Vizianagaram line with Howrah-Madras line.
It was the Capital of the Rajahs of Vizianagaram who yield
power from 17th Century A.D.
The Town contains magnificient fort which depicts the past
glory of these Rajahs. This is a place of historical importance and
it attained great prominence in the past and center of arts and
culture under the patronage of the enlightening in the ruling family
Vizianagaram. Many of the existing Educational and cultural
institutions at the place had their origin from the time of Rajahs
of Vizianagaram. Besides
other educational institutions, a Music College and a Sanskrit College
are functioning in the town. This
town is one of the centers of cultural development in the State.
“Pyditalli Ammavaru” a local Godess which is situated in
Vizianagaram town is very famous.
It attracts lakhs of people during “Sirimanu Festival” which
falls on the next Tuesday of Vijayadasami.
The celebrations are being inaugurated by the Rajahs of Vizianagaram
every year.
II. RAMATHIRTHALU:
This village is situated in Nellimarla
mandal and at a distance about 10 KM. North-East of Vizianagaram
and having orchaelogical importance. Here there is a hill called Bodikonda (Bold
Hill). On the top of the
Western hill, there is a ruined brick shrine in which 3 images of
Jain Thirthankaraas carved out of the local granite Ferrous manganese
rock are available. Besides there are many other sculptures on
this and the hill nearby and an inscription of the Eastern Chalukyasa
is also noticed. Apart from
this orchaeological importance, Ramarthirthalu is known from the
modern temple dedicated to Sri Rama.
III. GARIVIDI:
Garividi alias Shreeramnagar is situated
at a distance of 5 KMs. from the Cheepurupalli town.
This is famour for FACOR exploiting the Manganese are available
in and around this place to convert into Manganese.
IV. SALURU:
Saluru, the headquarter of the Mandal of
same name is situated at a distance of 60 KMs. from Vizianagaram
town. Owing to its strategic
situation and proximity of important markets such as Visakhapatnam.
It gives a stimulous to trade and provides an outlet to the
marketable surplus, particularly of the agency areas.
This place can therefore be considered as the gateway of
the export of all the produce from the agency area to the markets
mentioned above. The most
important institution at this place is the Veda Samaj Sanskrit High
School, which was established in A.D. 1888.
V. THOTAPALLI:
This village is situated at a distance
of about 8 KMs. from Parvathipuram town, in Garugubilli mandal.
This is famous for Sri Venkateswara and Sri Rama temple on
the banks of the river Nagavali. It attracts a good number of Piligrims from
both within and outside the district.
VI. BOBBILI:
Bobbili
is situated at a distance of 63 KM.s from Vizianagaram city. Bobbili is associated with historic battle
fought against the Rajahs of Vizianagaram and French, on onside
and Rajahs of Bobbili on the other.
The war memorial erected by the Rajahs of Bobbili can still
be seen towards the North-East on the out skirts of the town.
This town is famous for the manufactures of Veenas.
There is also a fine worth seen temple dedicated to Venugopal
Swamy in the middest of the town.
VII. GOVINDAPURAM:
Govindapuram is situated in Pusapatirega
mandal at distance of 309 KM.s from Vizianagaram town.
There is a spiritual temple with “Geethopadesh Radham” which
is a worth seeing, attracts a large number of piligrims.
It is nearer to Chintapalli sea shore.
VIII. GOSTHANI SAROVAR
VIHAR:
Gosthani Sarovar Vihar is situated at Thatipudi
reservoir at a distance of 20 KMs. from Vizianagaram town.
