The Zilla Parishad, Vizianagaram is formed with effect from 01.06.1979 comprising with 14 Panchayat Samithies with 02 Revenue Divisions.

All the erstwhile 14 Panchayat Samithies were divided into 34 Mandal Parishads, and three tier Panchayat Raj System came into force with effect from 30.5.1994 as per APPR Act 1994.

In view of the recent elections conducted to the Local Bodies during the year 2001, Smt B.Jhansi Lakshmi has been elected as Chairperson and Sri V.Thavitinaidu as Vice-Chairman of the Zilla Parishad.

The Zilla Parishad is conducting General Body Meetings and Standing Committees for every 90/60 days respectively and the members are reviewing the progress of work achieved with all the Departments in the District from time to time.
